On June 25, 1972, David Cassidy, a teen sensation thanks to his starring role in The Partridge Family on ABC, played the first notes at Pine Knob with a matinee performance in front of a full house of screaming teenage girls. The grown-ups weren’t left out of the party, either; Andy Williams and Quincy Jones played Pine Knob’s “formal” opening two days later.
