Recording both as Parliament and Funkadelic, George Clinton revolutionized R&B during the 1970s, twisting soul music into funk by adding influences from several late-’60s acid heroes: Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, and Sly Stone. The Parliament/Funkadelic machine ruled black music during the 1970s, capturing over 40 R&B hit singles (including three number ones) and recording three platinum albums.
Clinton has received a Grammy, a Dove (gospel), and an MTV music video awards, and has been recognized by BMI, the NAACP Image Awards, and Motown Alumni Association for lifetime achievement. Clinton’s Parliament/Funkadelic was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
The colossal Cameo will bring such classics as “Word Up!,” “Shake Your Pants” and “Attack Me With Your Love.” The Mary Jane Girls featuring Detroit native Val Young will have the crowd dancing to 1980’s R&B and Dance hits “In My House” and “All Night Long.” Jalil and Ecstasy of the chart-topping group Whodini were one of the first rap groups to add a straight R&B twist to their music, which included Top 20 Hot R&B singles “Freaks Come Out At Night,” “Friends” and “One Love.”
Slick Rick, the great storyteller of rap and marvelous master of melodic musings, will deliver crowd-pleasing hits from his R&B/Hip-Hop chart topping albums, The Great Adventures of Slick Rick (1988) and The Art of Storytelling (1999). Hits include “Children’s Story” and “I Shouldn't Have Done It.”
Big Daddy Kane has endured a substantive music career, which includes several gold albums, endless music accolades and a Grammy award. His catalogue of music consists of the LP Long Live The Kane that features hit songs “Ain’t No Half Steppin’” and “Raw.” The LP It’s A Big Daddy Thing featured “Smooth Operator” “Warm It Up” and the Teddy Riley produced hit “I Get The Job Done.”
All White Everything Concert and Party at Freedom Hill Amphitheatre is part of the Fifth Third Bank Concert Series.
