British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran became global phenomenon when his debut album, “+,” entered the UK Albums Chart at #1 with the highest opening sales figures for a debut male solo artist ever, and is now certified 6x-platinum. The hit single, “The A-Team,” proved a blockbuster, earning 2x-platinum certification from the RIAA as well as a GRAMMY® Award nomination for Song of the Year. The three-time GRAMMY Award®-nominated artist also made a record-breaking chart debut with the stateside release of “+,” which entered the SoundScan/Billboard 200 at #5, becoming the highest debut for a U.K. solo artist’s first full-length album, since 2009. The 23-year old’s forthcoming second album, “x,” is slated to arrive June 23. The lead single “Sing,” has catapulted to the top 3 on the iTunes Singles chart.
Eighteen-year-old singer-songwriter Austin Mahone won MTV Video Music Awards for “Artist to Watch” and MTV Europe Music Awards awards for, “Best Push Artist,” and “Artist on the Rise” in 2013. This year Mahone is gearing up for the release of his debut album, The Secret, scheduled for release on May 27. The album features the hit singles, “What About Love” and “Banga! Banga!,” which have collectively garnered over 55 million views on YouTube. The new single “Mmm Yeah” featuring Pitbull was released on iTunes in January.
Icona Pop – Aino Jawo Caroline Hjelt – is a Swedish DJ duo that formed in 2009. Their breakout hit, the certified double-platinum ”I Love It,” with Charli XCX, is featured on their self-titled debut album, their EP Iconic 2012, and their latest album, This Is... Icona Pop, released in September 2013. This Is... Icona Pop also includes singles ”We Got the World,” ”Girlfriend,” ”All Night” and their latest released single, ”Just Another Night.”
Little Mix – Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall – were crowned winners of The X Factor in 2011 and released their debut album, DNA, in 2012. DNA became the highest debut ever for a British female group’s first album, entering at #4 and eclipsing a 16-year-old record previously held by the Spice Girls’ 1996 album, Spice. Little Mix have sold over three million records and five million singles. Their latest album, Salute, was released in November 2013 and features hit singles, “Move” and “Little Me.”
Timeflies – singer Cal Shapiro and producer Rob Resnick – formed in 2010, after meeting as students at Tufts University and performing in a funk band called The Ride. In September 2011, the duo released their debut album, The Scotch Tape, which rose to # 8 on the iTunes overall chart and #2 on the iTunes Pop chart within 24 hours of its release. They released their first EP, One Night, in November 2012, and it reached #1 on the iTunes overall charts.
