Ralphie May's popularity exploded after the success of the first season of NBC’s hit reality series, Last Comic Standing, in 2003, where he finished second in the competition.
Known for his hip-hop brand of comedy and quick wit, May has earned him roles in such urban films as For Da Love of Money (2002) and Gas (2004). He’s notorious for being an equal-opportunity offender with a political incorrectness and plainspoken truth-telling in his material. With catch phrases such as “Yeah…. I said it,” this detail becomes more intriguing with his Southern drawl, and even his laugh.
In 2005, he released his first comedy album, the platinum-selling Just Correct. Since then, he has recorded four Comedy Central specials: Girth of a Nation (2006), Prime Cut (2007), Austin-tatious (2008) and Too Big To Ignore (2012).
May also participated in VH1’s first season of Celebrity Fit Club in 2005, in which eight celebrities bravely stepped forward and acknowledged that they've been losing the battle of the bulge. May has struggled with his weight since he was a teen.
Ralphie May with Lahna Turner at Meadow Brook Music Festival is part of the Belle Tire Concert Series.
