Fans will have the opportunity to see a pivotal 2021 PBR season second half event as the Top-35 bull riders in the world attempt to collect crucial points on the line in the world title race to November’s PBR World Finals.
The 2021 season is shaping up to be one of the tightest in PBR history as reigning PBR World Champion Jose Vitor Leme battles it out for a repeat title with 2018 World Champion Kaique Pacheco, 2016 World Champion Cooper Davis, surging Brazilian Dener Barbosa and his veteran countryman Joao Ricardo Vieira, who make up the current Top 5 and are all expected to compete in Detroit.
Leme has logged 10 round wins and 12 90-point rides to date in 2021 – on pace to break the season-record in both statistical categories. In 2013, two-time PBR World Champion J.B. Mauney registered a league-best 19 round wins, while in 1999 Cody Hart registered a PBR best 16 90-point rides.
As the No. 1-ranked rider in the world thus far in 2021, Leme is leading No. 2 rider Pacheco by 66.5 points, and is mounting a potentially record-setting season in a quest for a historic second consecutive PBR World Championship.
Should Leme repeat as the league’s World Champion, he would join Silvano Alves as the only riders to win the coveted gold buckle in back-to-back seasons. Alves won his first two titles in 2011 and 2012.
